Word games and video games were two of my favourite pastimes growing up but the two largely remained segregated affairs. Back in the day, the simplicity of handhelds condemned crosswords and the like to the realm of pencil and paper. It’s somewhat disheartening, then, that Word Wizard 3D arrives years after Nintendo established workable pricing schemes, visuals, and controls yet isn’t able to outclass the standard dollar store activity book.

Review: Arcade Classics 3D (3DS)

Game collection titles are an interesting oddity. From an uninformed viewpoint they seem like the best of both worlds, as developers are given the freedom to mess around with several dozen different mechanics and players are given more variety for their money. Unfortunately, most game collections are poorly made, and these games are typically best ignored by informed players unless they are truly bored. It is sad because there is good potential in game collections for experimentation.

Enjoy Gaming has been coming out with quite a few DSiWare games over the last couple of months, and while some of them like Little Red Riding Hood and Puss In Boots from the Tales to Enjoy! series were aimed at small children, Astro looks to be geared toward an older crowd by presenting a shooting title set against a science fiction story.

Puss In Boots is another of the many titles in the Tales to Enjoy! series by Enjoy Gaming. The intent with these titles is laser focused on children roughly four or five years of age. Adults or older gamers probably will not get much out of these games, but that leaves the question: will children enjoy them?

Review: Tales to Enjoy! Little Red Riding Hood (3DS)

Sometimes games have a target audience in mind, and that audience is the only one who will 'get it'. Enjoy Gaming is gearing this title and others from its Tales to Enjoy! series toward younger children. This is evident as soon as you start the game up, and that is not a bad thing - it is just that the appeal to those outside of that target bracket (think around six years old give or take a couple of years) might not find much to hold their interest.
