Review: NBA 2K14 (PS4)

NBA 2K14 PS4 Review by Nick H.

Without a doubt in my mind, NBA 2K14 is the best sports game I have played this year. Of course, everyone's mileage with sports titles generally boils down to what they think of the sport in question, and while 2K has a great engine in place here, they did miss a handful of marks when advancing its series to the next generation consoles as well.

Hardware Review: The PlayStation 4

Review by Nick H.

The PlayStation 4 is a very serious-looking piece of hardware with a great deal of potential. At launch, however, it does feels somewhat unrealised. For a system that claims it is all about the games, the release would have felt a little bit stronger if it had a more robust library of actual titles. But that aside, let's talk about the console itself.

A fond farewell to the last generation

Opinion by Nick H.

It's hard to believe the next generation of consoles is right around the corner. I suppose a fair point could be made that the Wii U actually kicked that generation, though many people felt it was more of a midway pit stop than a full on upgrade in technology. Am I excited to get my hands on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One controllers? Absolutely - but there was a great deal to love about the Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well.

Brutal Gamer News Wrap: 10/24/13

This week in the News Wrap, BG took a look at the monstrous cost of the PS4 in Brazil, the return of a classic flight sim in Red Baron, a super impressive trailer for Super Mario 3D World and CosPlay. Lots and lots of CosPlay.

Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter rakes in over $4M, releasing on eight platforms

Comcept’s upcoming Mighty No. 9 seems to be living up to its title already, at least monetarily. Headlined by Keiji Inafune of Mega Man fame, the 2D platformer amassed $4,031,428 between over 67,000 backers and hit all of its announced stretch goals in the process.

Early screenshots of Kadokawa Games' Tactics RPG, Natural Doctrine

One of the upcoming PlayStation 4 games I am most excited for is Natural Doctrine by Kadokawa Games. It will be releasing in Japan (no outside territories listed yet, but I am crossing my fingers) on February 22nd, 2014.

Digging into Deep Down

One of the titles during E3 that most piqued my interest was the brief peek at Deep Down by Capcom. The game had a D-D name, rather similar to Capcom's Dragon's Dogma, which made me wonder if maybe this would be a related title. Visually, it feels like it has more in common with the Dark Souls series.

Metal Gear Solid; focusing in on the boobs, yay or nay?

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain garnered a lot of attention when it was first teased, and now the prologue Ground Zeroes is starting to draw quite a bit of attention as well - but the big question is, is it drawing attention for the right things?

The visuals look amazing, and the promise of 60 frames per second is obviously nice, but Kojima's recent comments that they wanted to make the upcoming character Quiet to be more erotic and sexy raised a few eyebrows.

Nothing about the whole "shooting the living bejeebus out of enemies" bit, of course. It's the sexiness that is a threat to our global morality.

What do you get when you mix GungHo and Suda51?

When Goichi Suda talks about an upcoming title from Grasshopper Manufacture, a lot of people (including us) tend to listen.
