Friday 10s: The ten finest Nintendo DS JRPGs

List by Matt S.

Without a doubt the Nintendo DS was a JRPG powerhouse. Developers were able to create meaty, in-depth experiences for a relatively low cost on the console, making it perfect for cash-strapped JRPG houses.

Coming up with a list of my favourite ten JRPGs for the little console is a tough one - there are dozens that I still play on a regular basis on the 3DS, and this is before even accounting for the many, many great JRPGs that were never localised in the west.

So here's one of the toughest lists of ten favourite games that I've had to write yet. I'm looking forward to hearing your own favourites in the comments below!

Friday 10s: Ten Japanese games that sadly never got localised

Everyone likes a top-10 list. They're a bit of fun, and always good for discussion. And so each week we pull together a "top 10" list. These are here for fun and laughs - we're not pretending that we're the authority of good games taste in the world and this is purely the author's preferences. Agree with him/ her or not, it's all good. We'd love to hear your own personal preferences in the comments below the list. But please do be civil. We're all friends here.

This week Digitally Downloaded editor-in-chief, Matt, goes through his collection to look at some classic games that he has imported from Japan, absolutely loved, and wishes that the rest of the western world also got to play. Whether deemed "too otaku," "too niche" or some other excuse these are games that are essential for fans of Japanese games who can speak Japanese.

Without further ado, the list! Be sure to let us know what you think of the list below in the comments, and of course if there are any Japan-only games that you've imported and absolutely love, be sure to let us know what those are as well!

Friday 10s; Ten game franchises that need a rest

This week Digitally Downloaded journalist, Joseph, looks at a series of game franchises that are all superb, but possibly need to stop while they're ahead. It's a difficult challenge for game developers and publishers, to know when to stop, but too often we've seen wonderful game franchises that have fallen into mediocrity because the developers didn't know when to say enough is enough.

Be sure to let us know what you think of the list below in the comments, and of course if there are any franchises that you think should be added in there, let us know that as well!

Friday 10s: Ten must-own 3DS Virtual Console games

Everyone likes a top-10 list. They're a bit of fun, and always good for discussion. And so each week we pull together a "top 10" list. These are here for fun and laughs - we're not pretending that we're the authority of good games taste in the world and this is purely the author's preferences. The 3DS has had a Virtual Console service for quite a while now, and has steadily built up a substantial library of NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Gear games. For someone who has only recently picked up a 3DS it can be difficult wading through the catalogue to find that "must have" game to play next.

That's why we're here! Below are 10 of the very finest games available on the Virtual Console. Some are obvious choices, and others may just surprise you - one of the best things about the 3DS Virtual Console has been finding some classics that you might never have had a chance to play when they were originally released.

If your favourite Virtual Console game isn't listed below, be sure to let us know what is in the comments! Or let us know if there are any games that have let to be released on the Virtual Console that you would like to see.
